Art Appreciation with Jack Brin, films and conversation.
"The best damn artist in America." This was President Truman's assessment of Benton. His style was an exaggeration of mannerism, long past, in which figures seem very fluid, as if made of clay. In fact, they were. Early on, Benton adopted the habit of modeling his figures in clay before painting them. His subjects wer drawn from Americana, history, landscape and were largely of the working class.
