Jean SibeliusATTENTION SIBELIUS LOVERS! On Dec 8, 2015 Sibelius will be Jack Brin, speaker150 years old. To look forward to this momentous event, Prosser Public Library in Bloomfield will begin the celebration on Monday December 8, 2014 at 1:00 PM.   Jack Brin will show his video biography of Jean Sibelius, originally produced in 1978.

The biography looks at the man and his music from birth, through his musical evolution, into his long retirement, and ends with his death on Sept 20, 1957. Part one covers the years of nationalism, culminating in the famous Finlandia of 1899. Sibelius also wrote his first symphony in 1899.   It was the collection of seven symphonies that brought him to international fame. Part two of the biography includes excerpts from all the symphonies as well as all other major works written during this phase of his career. By the time of his retirement his fame was such that he was considered by many to be on the order of Beethoven and Brahms. Be there on Dec 8, his 149th birthday to enjoy this program. It is replete with quotes, anecdotes, and wonderful music. Jack Brin is a retired mathematics professor who enjoys sharing his love of music. Registration is appreciated, online at www.prosserlibrary.info or by calling 860-243-9721.
