Scott Joplin, Film Talk, Paul Stacy

6:30 PM - 8:00 PM
Prosser Library
Community Room

Event Details

Scott Joplin, the man, was depicted in a 1977 movie, a not especially good biographical film. But his music was resurrected with conspicuous success in The Sting, (1973) and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, (1988). Professor Stacy will show some odd things that happened to Joplin’s music. Best of all, Joplin did something not just odd, but thrilling: he wrote a shimmering opera, parts of which will be shown tonight.

Dr. Paul Stacy, retired professor of Film and English, returns to Prosser to explore the lives and work of two film and musical geniuses.
