Event Details

The Old Farm School bell tolled daily in the morning, at noon and afternoon as well as for public functions and funerals and notifying residents of fire. Completed in 1796, this building was in continuous use as a school until 1921, without benefit of indoor plumbing or electricity. Original desks and seats remain on the second floor. The building, located today at the corner of Park Avenue and School Street, has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1972. Tonight’s program includes a 16 minute film about the schoolhouse history and a talk about the history of schools in early Bloomfield. The film was made by Ralph Schmoll who will facilitate tonight’s presentation. A Wintonbury Historical Society and library sponsored event. Registration is appreciated.
