Event Details

Tonight's program will feature a video written and produced by Dr. Ralph Schmoll about Francis Gillette, one of Bloomfield’s most prominent activist citizens in the mid-19th century. His causes included education, temperance,and, most important, abolition of slavery. His traprock house was a stop on the Underground Railroad.

Reading from Gillette's speeches in Congress and in the Connecticut State Legislature, Historian Fred Hesketh will talk about Gillette’s strong positions on the issues of his day.
