Today's Film: 42: the Jackie Robinson Story
History was made in 1947, when Jackie Robinson broke the professional baseball race barrier to become the first African American MLB player of the modern era.   42 tells the life story of Robinson and his history-making signing with the Brooklyn Dodgers under the guidance of team executive Branch Rickey.  Facing unabashed racism from every side, Robinson was forced to demonstrate tremendous courage and restraint by not reacting in kind, knowing that any incident could destroy his and Rickey’s hopes. Instead, Number 42 let his talent on the field do the talking—ultimately winning over fans and his teammates, silencing his critics, and paving the way for others to follow.  Chadwick Boseman and Harrison Ford star in this bio-pic.
Martha Reingold has been a film-lover as far back as she can remember.  For the last 8 years, “Martha’s Movies” has been presenting “Films for Fun & Films for Thought” at retirement communities and libraries in the greater Hartford area.
