Andrew Mellon (28 min)
The National Gallery (28 min)
Andrew Mellon (1855 – 1937) was a “banker, industrialist, philanthropist, art collector, United States Ambassador to the United Kingdom, and United States Secretary of the Treasury from March 4, 1921 February 12, 1932” according to Wikipedia. This program is a re-enactment of his attempt to create a National Gallery in Washington, D.C. for which he donated his own private collection.
In the second video Julie Harris is our guide for a tour of the National Gallery. We can appreciate how art itself can be a trip through time, history, religion, mythology, science, and other disciplines -- if one takes advantage of it.
