Event Details

Today's recordings include works by the following composers:
Will Todd grew up in England.   He is a self-taught pianist who started singing in choir as a boy treble.   He has worked with the Welsh National Opera, the Royal Opera House, and other prestigious ensembles.  His output encompasses song, opera, musical theater, orchestral pieces, jazz, and he has written a huge body of choral music.  Todd’s composition "The Call of Wisdom" was commissioned for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012 and was broadcast worldwide on the BBC.

Olav Anton Thomessen was born in Oslo in 1946.   As the son of a diplomat, his family moved around the world, giving him an international background and perspective.
He studied music in Indiana, in Warsaw, Poland, and in Utrecht, Holland, and now teaches in Norway.   His style has
matured into a more modern language with great dynamic contrasts and a strong rhythmic vitality, but is still anchored in tonality.

Christopher Rouse is an American composer.  He has won both a Pulitzer Prize and a Grammy for his
compositions.   His music is notable for its emotional
intensity.   Currently, he is a teacher at Juilliard.   Best known for his
orchestral works, his music has been performed by every major orchestra in the United States, and by major orchestras around the world.   Among his commissions have been pieces for cellist Yo Yo Ma, guitarist Sharon Isbin, and pianist Emanuel Ax.
Russ Salk will bring his collection of recordings by contemporary composers for your listening pleasure. Enjoy musical excerpts and learn a bit about selected contemporary composers. Registration is appreciated.
