This the first in a series of five sessions devoted to ballet for spring/summer 2017.   

Today see American Ballet Theater,  running time 1 hour 22 minutes.

Created in 1939 by Lucia Chase and Oliver Smith, the American Ballet Theater was led by them as artistic directors until 1980.   Mikhail Baryshnikov the took over leadership until 1989.  Kevin McKenzie is the current artistic director of  the American Ballet Theater.  Today's film includes  a variety of excerpts  of classical ballet and modern dance, with commentary by many of the performers.
