Art Appreciation with Dolores Howard and Gwen Lewis.  View a 60 minute film about artist Kehinde Wiley, followed by discussion.   Kehinde Wiley has been selected to paint President Obama‚Äôs official portrait.

The film is Kehinde Wiley : an Economy of Grace / a Show of Force, a production in association with PBS; produced by Jessica Chermayeff.


Wiley is a painter best known for his naturalistic portraits of African American men in heroic poses.   In all of his work, Wiley combines a wide range of references from classical painting and pop culture. He developed an early interest in portraiture and frescoes, particularly the work of Venetian painters such as Titian and Giambattista Tiepolo, and draws inspiration from French Rococo painting, Islamic architecture, African textile design, contemporary fashion, and urban hip hop.
