Meet the composer Stephen Gryc.

Dream Vegetables, his setting of poems by the contemporary American poet Maggie Anderson, will be the featured work today.  Stephen Michael Gryc’s expertise in writing for orchestral instruments has brought him commissions from some of the world’s leading soloists including the principal trumpet and trombone players of the New York Philharmonic. He is professor emeritus of music composition at the Hartt School of the University of Hartford where he taught for 35 years.

Also listen to recordings by Celso Garrido-Lecca today.

Celso Garrido-Lecca was born in Peru in 1926. After completing composition studies in Lima and in Chile, and serving as composer and musical adviser for the Theater Institute at the University of Chile, he won scholarships allowing him to study in New York, and later at Tanglewood under Aaron Copland. As his musical style matured, he was more able to incorporate indigenous Latin-American styles in his compositions.

Russ Salk will bring his collection of recordings by contemporary composers for your listening pleasure. Enjoy musical excerpts and learn a bit about selected contemporary composers. Registration is appreciated.
