Gioachino Rossini was the supreme composer of Italian opera during the first half of the nineteenth century. He was also extremely prolific. During a span of ten years he produced thirty operas, and most of them were successful. As the age of thirty-seven, though Rossini lived nearly forty more years, he put down his pen and never wrote another opera again!
Today's program will follow the odd arc of Rossini's career and will explore his less familiar instrumental and vocal works.
